Our Company

Major Wire Industries Limited is a leading manufacturer of screen media (also known as screen cloth and screening media) throughout North America and many parts of the world. Headquartered in a flagship 93,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in the Montreal-area of Quebec, Canada, the company has built a solid reputation as a pioneering and premium quality provider of screen media that serves the aggregate, mining, recycle, asphalt, slag, green waste, top soil and related markets.

Founded in 1884 by Mr. E. J. Major, Major Wire initially manufactured wire fencing, safety screens for windows and other screens. Over the years, the company management has diversified its product line to meet the changing needs and demands of customers, and has moved the company in new directions and into new markets.

Since he purchased the company in 1990, President Jean Leblond has significantly grown the business and expanded it internationally with the introduction of several revolutionary new products. These include:

  • Flex-Mat® 3 High-Performance, Self-Cleaning Screen Media in tensioned and modular screen media versions
  • The industry’s strongest woven wire with OptimumWire®
  • Several unique screening solutions for specific challenges involving one or more of these key technologies

In 1996, Major Wire introduced a revolutionary new line of self-cleaning screen media. The result was Flex-Mat 3 High-Performance, Self-Cleaning Screen Media, which is constructed of independently vibrating wires and polyurethane strips that dramatically increase material throughput, lengthen wear life, and virtually eliminate blinding, pegging and clogging. It has had a dramatic impact on production output for more than 20,000 applications worldwide.

Flex-Mat 3 uses a highly automated, precise and proprietary manufacturing process to replace the largely manual, imprecise, labor-intensive process the rest of the industry continues to use today. In fact, only recently have some other screen media suppliers begun to offer their clones. Today, these manufacturers are still selling their first generations, and are struggling with the tremendous learning curve required to make this unique screen media effective. Extensive application and installation knowledge, along with a wide range of opening sizes and wire diameters, are critical to truly maximize each screen deck's throughput. These features are available only in Major Wire's Flex-Mat 3.

In 2008, Major Wire opened a U.S. manufacturing and distribution facility in Puyallup, Washington, to continue providing Authorized Dealers the industry’s most cost-effective screen media options with shorter delivery times.

Continued sales growth in Flex-Mat 3, OptimumWire, stainless steel and other screen media solutions in Western North America have been significant. In late 2012, the facility moved to a larger facility in Fife, Washington. The new location offers 60,000 square feet of new manufacturing, shipping and office space.

With Weaving & Finishing facilities and Cut & Hook operations located throughout North America and the world, Major Wire and its knowledgeable Authorized Dealer Network can meet inventory requirements before it becomes a problem.
