Increasing Screening Efficiency In Your Slag Operation…

Major Wire has the experienced and knowledgeable Territory Manager field support and Authorized Dealer Network to help you choose the right screen media (also known as screen cloth and screening media) option to solve your daily challenges as a slag producer. Upon request, these Major Wire experts can visit your operation and provide a no-cost plant performance audit of your screening needs to fine tune each screen’s production to its greatest potential.

Once regarded as a useless by-product of the steel-making process, slag is now accepted and often preferred and specified for many uses. Slag can be efficiently crushed and screened for numerous applications. Many slag producers are using Flex-Mat® 3 to eliminate blinding and pegging, helping turn this former waste product into new sources of revenue.

Flex-Mat 3 tensioned and modular screen media increases production of spec product by up to 40% over woven wire or polyurethane panels. In addition, Flex-Mat 3 has up to 30% more open area than woven wire (also known as woven wire screens), allowing up to 30% more sized material to fall through each opening. Flex-Mat 3’s wear life exceeds that of traditional woven wire by up to three times because there are no cross wires with high wear spots as there are with woven wire.

Depending on the spec product desired and the size of the original material, most slag producers choose Flex-Mat 3 D configuration because it consistently produces accurate material separation. Flex-Mat 3 T (heavy-duty) is used in applications with high material impact on screens. Flex-Mat 3 S stainless steel wire is often used to screen slag with a high sulfur content because of its tough wear characteristics.
